Application of combined extraction centrifugal extractor in nickel cobalt extraction process

Nickel and cobalt, as two precious metals shining silver-white luster, exist in nature mostly in a combined state, and their unique physical and chemical properties give them a wide range of applications in many industrial fields. Due to its excellent hardness, ductility, wear resistance and corrosion resistance, nickel has become a key material in materials science, electroplating, catalysts and energy technology. Cobalt, with its high hardness, ferromagnetism and stable chemical properties, plays an irreplaceable role in many high-tech fields such as alloy manufacturing, aerospace, battery materials and catalysts.

 

Due to the chemical similarity of nickel and cobalt, the extraction of these two metals in industry requires the use of highly selective extractants to distinguish and extract the target metal. In this process, the combined extraction centrifugal extractor has become the core equipment in the nickel-cobalt extraction process with its unique advantages.


Nickel cobalt extraction process overview:




Pretreatment: First of all, the raw material containing nickel and cobalt is pretreated, including crushing, grinding and other steps to increase the surface area of the raw material and facilitate the metal dissolution in the subsequent extraction process.


Impurity removal: through a specific chemical method to remove the impurity elements in the raw material, reduce the interference to the extraction process, improve the extraction efficiency.


Cobalt extraction stage: Cobalt extraction is carried out in a combined extraction centrifugal extractor using a specific extractant. Under the action of centrifugal force, the extractant is fully mixed with the cobalt containing solution, and cobalt ions are selectively extracted into the extractant to form an organic phase rich in cobalt.


Nickel extraction stage: after cobalt extraction is completed, the extraction conditions are adjusted to extract nickel. The combined extraction centrifugal extractor once again exerted its efficient separation ability to extract nickel ions from the remaining solution and concentrate them in another extraction system.


Washing and stripping: the organic phase after extraction is washed to remove residual impurities and solvents. This is followed by a backstripping operation, in which the metal ions in the nickel - or cobalt-enriched extractant are re-transferred to the aqueous phase or other solvent to obtain a nickel - or cobalt-containing solution suitable for subsequent treatment.


Regeneration and recovery: Extractants are regenerated for recycling and high purity nickel and cobalt products are recovered.
