Solid phase extraction (SPE) is a fast and efficient sample pretreatment technique, which is widely used in water quality monitoring to improve detection sensitivity and analysis efficiency.
Principles and processes of SPE
Solid phase extraction (SPE) separates the target compounds in the sample from the complex matrix by selective adsorption and elution. The basic process includes four steps: column balancing, sample loading, impurity elution and target elution. The adsorbent filled inside the SPE column has specific selectivity and can efficiently enrich the target material.
1. Efficient enrichment
SPE can effectively increase the concentration of the target compound, so that it can be detected in low concentration samples.
2. Simplify sample pretreatment
Reduce the complexity and time of sample pretreatment and improve the overall analysis efficiency.
3. You're adaptable
Different materials of SPE columns can be used for different types of targets and substrates, with a wide range of applicability.
Application in water quality monitoring
1. Drinking water analysis
It is used to detect organic pollutants, heavy metals and trace pesticide residues in drinking water to ensure water quality safety.
2. Environmental water monitoring
In environmental water bodies such as rivers, lakes and oceans, SPE is used to monitor and analyze pollutants to support environmental protection efforts.
3. Evaluation of wastewater treatment effect
The effectiveness of the wastewater treatment process is evaluated through SPE treatment of the water samples before and after, and the discharge standards are ensured.
In the future, solid phase extraction technology will be developed in the direction of high-throughput automation to meet the needs of large-scale sample processing. At the same time, the development of new adsorption materials will further improve the selectivity and durability of SPE, expanding its application in complex substrates.
